Owning and Inheriting Property Empowers Women
In order to help Afghan women to better understand and enjoy their rights to access, own and inherit property, by partnership of UK Embassy and Organization for Empowerment and Development of Afghans, has supported discussions within local communities.
These communities discussions in Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e Sharif, Sar-e Pul and Parwan provinces have been finding ways to ensure that women’s rights to property are respected. The discussions included 308 community leaders who identified over 22 cases where women and girls’ rights to inherit property have been violated. Their cases are now being followed in Courts and within the Ministry of Justice.
Local reporters and journalists representing local and national TV and Radio Channels also attended training to better understand the issues involved on Women’s Property Rights, so they can report accurately, respecting women’s rights and upholding them!
